Elon Musk’s mother has faced backlash for suggesting voter fraud before voting in the United States

Mae Musk, the mother of billionaire Elon Musk, has sparked controversy after she appeared to encourage voter fraud a month before the US election. On October 5, he wrote in X: “Democrats have given us another option. You don’t need to register to vote. On election day, have 10 fake names, go to 10 polling stations and vote 10 times. That’s 100 votes and it’s not illegal. “Maybe we should work the system too.”

However, Forum X notes, citing the US Code of Election Conduct, they flagged the tweet and said, “This is actually illegal.” Research into voter fraud has also consistently shown that it is extremely rare, with no evidence of organized fraud by Democrats as May Musk has suggested.

The internet also erupted in disbelief.

“Is this supposed to be a joke?” One of the users commented under My Mask’s post.

“This tweet amounts to criminal solicitation and is a complete criminal act in and of itself,” a lawyer wrote. If at least one person complies with your request, you may also be charged with conspiracy. You should retract this tweet immediately.”

“FBI and DOJ if you’re listening,” one comment read.

Someone said it was “voting fraud” and that it would be prosecuted.

Experts have weighed the legality of his statements. Nate Presley, an election expert at Stanford Law School and NBC News contributor, noted that if people followed his advice, they would likely be violating election laws. He noted that Title 52 of the United States Code prohibits the use of false information to register to vote, and possible penalties include fines of up to $10,000 or imprisonment for up to five years.

Simply using a fake name is not enough to register voters. Individuals must provide proof of identification, which usually includes their driver’s license number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. Election officials verify this information, and undocumented voters can provide utility bills or other proof of residency, depending on state regulations.

A few hours after his initial post, Mae Musk posted again, advising users to “disregard his previous post.” “In Butler, Pennsylvania, we just heard that the Republicans are going to make sure that illegals don’t vote,” he explained.

In another tweet, the 76-year-old said critics “don’t get the irony” and claimed her comments were a response to California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Senate Bill 1174, which would bar local governments from imposing voter ID requirements in elections.

As the crucial Nov. 5 election nears, Elon Musk publicly endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and challenger VJD Vance against Democrats Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
